Gwen Chiaranda spent five years as the assistant director of athletics for sports medicine at Assumption College. She was named to the position July 25, 2013.
Chiaranda came to Assumption from Northeast-10 rival Stonehill College (Mass.), where she served as an assistant athletic trainer from 2007-2013. At Stonehill, she assisted with the management and daily operation of the athletic training department and worked primarily with the field hockey, football, men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse teams. In addition to her work at Stonehill, she has also worked as the head athletic trainer at the Boston College Football Camps from since 2007, where she was responsible for the care of up to 2000 high school athletes and supervised a staff of up to 11 athletic trainers.
Prior to her three seasons as an assistant athletic trainer, Chiaranda worked as an athletic trainer student at Stonehill College for a year while earning her master’s degree in 2007 from Bridgewater State University (Mass.) in physical education, with a concentration in athletic training. As a student, she assisted with coverage of the football and basketball teams.
Before earning her master’s degree, she served as a diet technician at the Boston University Medical Center from 2004-2005 and also worked as a nutrition care representative at Fletcher Allen Healthcare from 2002-2004.
Chiaranda graduated from the University of Vermont in 2002 with a degree in nutrition and food sciences and a concentration in sports nutrition.
