Women's Volleyball Falls To Bridgeport and Saint Anselm

- Records: Bridgeport (8-1); Saint Anselm (5-5); Assumption (1-7)

- The Lead: Assumption won the first set of the day, but lost momentum and fell 3-1 to Bridgeport and 3-0 to Saint Anselm.



- After a back-and-forth battle during the first set with eight ties, the Hounds pulled ahead 21-18 and then only allowed Bridgeport two of the final six points scored to take an early 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 first set victory.

- The second set was much like the first, with ten ties, except Bridgeport took an advantage at 22-18. The Hounds scored two more times before Bridgeport took the set 25-20 and tied the match at one.

- The Purple Knights continued their momentum into the third set and took and early 7-3 lead and extended it to 10-4 after the Hounds stole a point. Despite the Hounds effort, Bridgeport went on a six-point scoring spree to earn a 24-9 lead and eventually took the set 25-12.

- Bridgeport excelled into the fourth set with a 7-1 jump on the Hounds. Assumption rallied and scored four straight to get within five (15-10) before the two teams started trading points. Bridgeport ended up winning the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.


- Ariana Orcera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) and Alana Hruska (Marlboro, Conn./RHAM) led the Hounds with nine kills apiece while Orcera also added ten digs.

- Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) earned 27 assists in the match while Kyra Belden (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline High School) recorded 21 assists.



- Saint Anselm took a 5-2 lead before Assumption was able to get their feet under them. The Hounds tied the set at 12 and 13 before taking a three-point lead (16-13). Assumption led 21-19 before Saint Anselm gained the momentum and won the first set 25-21.

- The Hawks took a 5-2 lead once again in the second set and extended their lead to four (8-4) before Assumption gained control with a six-point rally to take a two-point lead (10-8). After tying the set at 13, the Hawks took a three-point lead (16-13) and continued their momentum to take the second set 25-18.

- In the third set, the Hounds took the 5-2 lead early only for Saint Anselm to fight back and tie the set at nine. The two teams traded points, with no one scoring more than three in a row, before Saint Anselm won the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.


- Orcera led with eight kills while Hruska and Tess Haller (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) recorded six apiece.

- Krawczyk recorded eight digs while Belden earned 14 assists and Danielle Zarcone (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown High School West) added 15 assists.


- The Hounds are back on the court Saturday, September 21 for two more matches at American International against Felician at 3 p.m. and against the Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m.
