WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Abby Jones (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) finished ninth overall in the pentathlon to earn Second-Team All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday hosted by Pittsburg State University and the Crawford Country Convention and Visitors Bureau in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Jones finished the day with 3660 points overall, breaking her own school record in the event. She opened the pentathlon by placing 13th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.31 seconds but followed it up with a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters. Jones then took 12th in the shot put with a throw of 10.36 meters. She took seventh in the long just at 5.48 meters and concluded the events by taking 11th in the 800 meters in a time of 2:22.27.
Her point total of 3660 was just 15 points out of eighth and First-Team All-America status. Olivia Montez Brown for Augustana won the event with 3915 points, just edging out Trace Mosby of Pittsburg State who had 3906 points. The ninth place finish is the highest ever for an Assumption track and field athlete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships and improved on her 15th place finish in 2018.
She returns to action on March 29 when the team competes at the Black and Gold Invitational at Bryant University.
