WORCESTER, Mass. – Following a pair of strong performances last weekend, freshman Victoria Steffon (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) was honored as the NE10 Track Rookie of the Week while classmate Megan Sheehan (Newton, N.H. / Sanborn Regional) took home Field Rookie of the Week honors.
Steffon earned a pair of victories over the weekend at the USM Open. She broke a 35-year-old school record in the 55 meters with her time of 7.33 seconds. When converted to a 60-meter time, it ranks as the seventh best in the East Region this year. Steffon followed it up by finishing the 200 meters in 26.28 seconds, winning the event by .33 seconds.
Sheehan took third in the weight throw at the USM Open with a toss of 13.84 meters. It is the best mark any freshman in the NE10 has thrown in 2019 and just off of her school-record toss of 14.06 meters on Jan. 19.
This marks the second straight week Steffon has earned Rookie of the Week honors. Sheehan, meanwhile, becomes the third Assumption freshman to earn conference recognition this year, joining Steffon and Claudia Koontz (Concord, Mass. / Concord-Carlisle Regional).
Assumption returns to action on Friday when the team competes at the NEICAAA Championships in Boston. For the latest on Assumption College Athletics, follow the Hounds via social media on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
