Warriors Slip Past Women's Tennis in Non-Conference Match

-The Lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team dropped in a non-conference battle with the Warriors of Merrimack College on Thursday afternoon. The victory helped keep Merrimack undefeated through the fall season, 5-0, while the Hounds slip to 5-6 on the season. 


-Junior Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. Manchester Central) and senior Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) earned the Hounds a victory at No. 1 doubles defeating Merrimack sophomore Kristina Calistro and first year Allyson Nerf, 6-3. The Warriors ultimately took the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Rosemary Campanella and first year Kelly Klaren outlasted Assumption senior Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and junior Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad), 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Hope Salts and senior Mia Briggs edged junior Veronica Op (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and sophomore Ana Escudero (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery), 6-3.

-Chappell won at No. 1 singles with Merrimack taking a medical retirement. Escudero defeated Briggs at No. 6 singles, 6-2 and 6-4. Monje took her singles match to a third set but ultimately fell to Nerf, 1-6, 6-4, 7-10. First year Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) also pushed her match to three sets, but fell to Campanella after the hard-fought battle at No. 3 singles.


-The Hounds wrap up the fall season on Saturday, October 19th at Frankling Pierce. The NE10 match is set for 12:00 p.m.
