WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) was named the NE10 Player of the Year, highlighting four NE10 All-Conference honorees for Assumption, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Chappell came into her own in 2018, moving up to the No. 1 spot in the Assumption lineup and posting an impressive 9-2 record. She won eight of her nine matches in straight sets up help the Hounds finish 7-4 in conference play overall. Chappell also was named First-Team All-Conference at No. 1 singles and to the NE10 Third Team in No. 1 doubles. Last year Chappell earned Third-Team All-Conference honors at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles.
In addition to Chappell, Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad), Ana Escudero (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) were both named to the Second Team, while Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) earned NE10 Third-Team honors. Sanchez finished the year 5-1 in conference play at No. 5 singles, while Escudero went 4-1 at No. 6 singles. Monje played at No. 3 this year, amassing a 6-3 record while teaming up with Chappell to go 6-3 at No. 3 doubles in conference play. Escudero was also named the NE10 All-Rookie Team.
