Women's Lacrosse Picked Sixth in NE10 Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – After finishing seventh in the conference a season ago, the Assumption women's lacrosse team was picked sixth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the conference on Monday.

The Hounds were picked sixth with 103 points, just edging out Bentley by a point. Defending National Champion Le Moyne, sits atop with 167 points and 11 first place votes. Trailing Le Moyne by only eight points is Adelphi, who recorded three first place votes as well. Both these teams met in the NE10 Championship last season with Le Moyne winning. Assumption trails Pace by 23 points for the fifth spot while Merrimack (133) was third and New Haven (131) took fourth. To view the complete NE10 release, click here.

Assumption is coming off a seventh place finish after falling to Adelphi in the NE10 Quarterfinals. The Hounds finished with a record of 9-8 and 6-7 in conference play last year.  The Hounds struggled on the road, but were very dominate at home with a record of 6-2.

The 2018 Hounds return five seniors, six juniors, and nine sophomores who scored a combined 272 goals last season. The Hounds bring back some of their top goal scorers from last season. Senior Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn. / Fairfield-Warde)  led the team with 62 goals and 88 points while classmate Kailyn Hart (Cohoes, N.Y. / Shaker) had 33 goals, and junior Jenny Bush (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) posted 24 goals and 56 draw controls. Meghan Cushing (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) returns for a fifth season after doing a little of everything last season with 22 points, 49 ground balls, 47 draws and 22 caused turnovers. Assumption also returns junior goalie Kyra Goucher (Derry, N.H. / Pinkerton Academy) who started 17 games for the Hounds last season.

Assumption opens its 2019 season on Tuesday February 26 when they host Bridgeport at 4:00 p.m. Last season the Hounds won their season opener 20-4 against Post and look to start the year strong with a win against Bridgeport.
