The Lead: Freshman Catherine French (Dudley, Mass. / Shepherd Hill Regional) placed first and Mia Rapoza (Westport, Mass. / Bishop Stang) placed second to lead the Assumption women's golf team to a first place finish in the inagural NEIGA DII Intercollegiate Tournament on Sunday
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The event was originally supposed to be 36 holes over two days but was moved to just 18 holes due to weather. French shot an 78 to earn first place overall in the tournament, while Rapoza was just three strokes behind shooting an 81 to take second place.
- Christine Cutting (Scituate, Mass. / Scituate) shot a 92, which was one stoke over of taking third place. Sophomore Casey Gurlitz (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) placed ninth shooting a 109 and junior Alyssa Ruggieri (Canston, R.I./Cranston West) finished tenth with a 119.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The team shot a 360 combined, while French and Rapoza led all statistic categories. French tallied three birdies and Rapoza added one. The freshman both recorded eight pars to lead the tournament.
- The College of Saint Rose earned a combined score of 391 to take second palce overall.
