-The Lead: The Assumption College women's golf team finished third at the Lady Penmen Spring Classic on Sunday in its first of three spring contests. Sophomore Alyssa Ruggieri (Cranston, RI / Cranston West) led the Hounds with a 13th-place finish on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Ruggieri's 13th-place finish came after scoring two-round total of 197. She carded a 103 in round one on Saturday before improving to 94 on Sunday for a +53 total.
-A pair of Hounds tied for 15th-place overall including senior Allison Juneau (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) and senior Emily Gonsalves (Greenville, R.I. / Smithfield). Juneau registered a 107 on day one and a 110 on day two for her total of 217. Gonsalves shot a 116 on day one and 15 strokes lower on day two (101).
-Senior Ally Fillebrown (Ayer, Mass. / Ayer Shirley Regional) and freshman Casey Gurlitz (Auburn, Mass. / Auburn) rounded out the Greyhound top five. Fillebrown carded a two-day total of 228, improving 14 strokes from day one to day two.
-Gurlitz finished with a final total of 231, shaving off three strokes from day one to day two (117, 114).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
-Franklin Pierce finished first with a total of 657 (+81).
-Southern New Hampshire followed with a score of 712 (+136) while the Hounds trailed in third (859, +283).
-The Hounds registered a score of 447 in round one before improving to 412 on day two.
-Assumption is set to return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 23-24, at the Ithaca College Invitational at Ithaca Country Club in Ithaca, N.Y.
