Women's Golf Completes First Tournament in Program History


-Tournament: Lady Penmen Invitational
-Results: 6th of 6 teams | 441-422 = 863 (+279)

-Date: Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19-20, 2015
-Course Stats: Par 73 (5,918 yards) 
-The Lead: The Assumption College women's golf team completed its first competition in the history of the program this past weekend at the Lady Penmen Invitational. Senior Emily Gonsalves (Greenville, R.I. / Smithfield) was the top finisher for the Hounds, tying for 27th place overall. 


-Gonsalves carded a 98 in round one (+25) before improving by three strokes on day two to finish with a final score of 193 (+47).

-Sophomore Alyssa Ruggieri (Cranston, RI / Cranston West), senior Jacey Copes (Attleboro, Mass. / Attleboro) and senior Ally Fillebrown (Ayer, Mass. / Ayer Shirley Regional) finished back-to-back on the weekend. Ruggieri placed 32nd with her score of 204, followed by Copes and Fillebrown who tied for 33rd overall with scores of 233.



-It was Merrimack that claimed the top spot, totaling 622 strokes (+38) for first place overall.

-Le Moyne took second with 653 (+69) while Franklin Pierce rounded out the top three with its two-round score of 659 (+75).

-As a team, the Hounds finished sixth of six full teams competing. There were individuals from nine teams across the board.



-The Hounds are set to return to action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26, as they travel to Sands Point, N.Y. for their first Northeast-10 Championship in program history.
