WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption's women's basketball team will hold its annual Play4Kay game on Wednesday, February 20 when the team hosts Franklin Pierce at 5:30 p.m.
Admission for the evening's doubleheader will be waived, however, those attending the game are encouraged to donate to the Play4Kay initiative. The women's team willing be wearing pick warmup shirts and other pink attire to raise awareness for this cause.
Since its inception is 2007, the Play4Kay initiative has helped raise millions of dollars for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which funds women's cancer research and related projects. Kay Yow was a former N.C. State women's basketball coach who passed away in 2009 after her third bout with cancer. Play4Kay is the grassroots fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. It was originally called Think Pink, later Pink Zone, and most recently and finally, Play4Kay. Women's basketball teams wore pink in honor of Coach Yow and those battling cancer. In 2007, this movement resulted in the establishment of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and its Play4Kay initiative. For more information, click here.
