Pleasantville, N.Y. (January 28) – On Wednesday night at the Goldstein Center, the Assumption College women's basketball team dropped a 74-45 final to Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Pace took the lead from the outset, knocking down the first eight points of the game before a jumper from sophomore Allison Stoddard (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) cut the lead to 8-2. A turnaround jumper from senior captain Caitlin Ackerman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) made it a 12-6 margin with 13:59 on the clock, but the Setters ran off an 8-3 run for a double-digit edge on a Geena Rosalbo three from the right wing just 4:14 later. Pace extended the lead to 28-13 with 6:49 left on two free throws and continued to lead by a 34-15 margin as the game went under the five-minute mark in the first half.
Two straight baskets from Alexa Dietrich closed out the opening period for the Setters as she ended the half with four points. Rosalbo posted 10 points in the half, while Margo Hackett led all scorers with 11. Stoddard led the Hounds with an eight-point half. As a team, Assumption was held to 30.4 percent shooting from the field, while Pace shot a blistering 65 percent.
In the second half, the Setters pushed the lead out to 53-32 on a putback from Kirsten Dodge and led by 28 at 68-40 with 3:34 left after two free throws by Jaclyn Oskam. With just 49 seconds left, Brianna Harris knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a game-high 30-point game at 74-44.
Stoddard led the Hounds with 14 points on the night, while Hackett anchored three Setters in double figures with 15. Dodge also finished with 13, while Rosalbo added 12. On the defensive end, the Hounds forced 20 turnovers but were outscored 22-10 at the free throw line.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 11-7 overall and 6-7 in the league, while Pace evens it record at 10-10 overall and 5-8 in Northeast-10 play.
Assumption is back in action on Saturday, January 31st as the Hounds host Southern Connecticut for a 1:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
