Phil Towler begins his second season as an assistant coach for the Assumption College men’s soccer program in 2016.
Towler comes to Assumption from Division I Providence College, where he was a team captain and a Third Team All-American. The native of Cumbria, England, helped lead the Friars to the 2014 College Cup and a 16-5-2 overall record as the team fell in double overtime in the NCAA Semifinals. Appearing in all 23 games, Towler tallied three points on one goal and two assists, including a goal in a 2-1 win over DePaul. He was a Second Team All-BIG East honoree, was named to the NSCAA Great Lakes All-Regional First Team, was a one-time member of the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll and was a College Madness BIG EAST 2014 Preseason All-Conference Second Team selection.
In addition to becoming just the fourth Friar in program history to be named an All-American, Towler also received the team’s Martin Hayes Defensive MVP Award at the conclusion of his senior season. Back in his junior season, Towler was a member of the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection and was the Co-Most Outstanding Player at the Ocean State Soccer Classic.
