Worcester, Mass. (October 28) – The Assumption College men's soccer team celebrated senior night on Friday night, and honored three seniors, Luke Whelan (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate), Scott Buckholz (Seymour, Conn./Seymour), and Justin Pugliese (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) in a ceremony before the game.
The Hounds then gave the seniors a victory in their final game with a 2-0 victory over Saint Michael's College, with each senior making a contribution in the first half.
The Hounds struck first, with a goal in the ninth minute by Whelan, and Junior Tom Carroll (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) assisted the goal. The Hounds added to their lead in the 17th minute with a goal by fellow senior Buckholz, and Pugliese assisted the goal. Junior goalie Matt Wrenn (Windham, N/H./Tilton School) made a save in the shutout half.
Freshman Dylan Strachan (New Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) replaced Wrenn at the half and made three saves while posting a shutout half of his own.
The Hounds finish up at 3-10-1 with the win and 3-9-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights end their season at 5-10-2 and 3-9-1 in the conference.
