WORCESTER, Mass. – Following an impressive 45-21 victory over Kutztown on Saturday, the Assumption football team has moved up three spots to 18th nationally in the latest American Football Coaches Association Poll, which was released today.
Ranked 21st entering the season, the Hounds led Kutztown 24-13 at the half and then outscored the Golden Bears 21-8 in the final 30 minutes to leave no doubt in victory. Assumption showcased a balanced attack, with 275 passing yards and 207 rushing yards for 482 total yards. The defense also forced two turnovers while winning the time of possession battle by over four minutes.
This is the second-highest ranking for Assumption in program history, after finishing last year ranked 17th in the final AFCA Poll. The Hounds are the only team from New England ranked in the top 25. Northwest Missouri earned all 30 first place votes to remain atop the poll for the second consecutive week in 2016.
