WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior catcher Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass. / Boston College) of the Assumption baseball team has been placed on the 2018 NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Preseason All-East Region First Team.
Last spring, Jaehnig became the 11th player in the programs history to be named All-American after his standout junior season. The Quincy, Massachusetts native hit a robust .401 on the season, leading the NE10 and the East Region in that category. He also owned the top slugging percentage in the conference and ranked third in the East Region with a mark of .637, which was .67 points higher than the runner up in the NE10. Jaehnig also finished second in the conference with 16 doubles and 63 hits, while ranking in the top ten in home runs (five), RBI (33), triples (three) and on base percentage (.449) all while recording a .975 fielding percentage behind the plate as the catcher. On the season, Jaehnig tallied 20 multi-hit games and reached base safely in 37 out of the 42 games.
Jaehnig is one-of-three First Team position player selections from the NE10, joining third baseman Jack Zagaja from New Haven and outfielder Ryan Sullivan from Southern New Hampshire.
