Volleyball Announces 2012 Schedule

Worcester, Mass. (July 18) -- The Assumption College volleyball team, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Leo Fahey, has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The Hounds are coming off a 7-22 overall record in 2011, including a 1-14 mark in Northeast-10 play.

The Hounds open the season on September 1st and 2nd at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, hosted by American International College. The team's home opener comes on September 5th as the team plays host to Southern New Hampshire for a non-conference match at Laska Gym beginning at 7 p.m. Assumption posted a 2-0 mark last year against the Penmen, posting a pair of 3-2 victories.

After five matches at the Lynn University Invitational from September 6-8, the Hounds open league play at Stonehill on September 11th at 7 p.m.

Mary Johnston (Pearland, Texas/Glenda Dawson) returns after leading the team in kills last season with 243, followed by Ryan Merle (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) with 204 and Lauren Ostafin (Avon, Conn./Avon) with 193. Kristin Flatekval (Mahwah, N.J./Immaculate Heart) led the team in assists with 817, while Steph Whooten (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) was the team leader in digs with 349.
