Worcester, Mass. (September 26) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 final to Southern New Hampshire University, the 2012-13 runners-up in the Northeast-10 Conference at the Assumption tennis courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Greyhounds trailed 2-1 after doubles, as Paige Palmero (Trumbull, Conn. / Lauralton Hall) and Paige Gilet (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) won 8-1 at number three doubles. Palmero and Gilet defeated a SNHU doubles pairing of Allison Valentine and Elizabeth Worth to give Assumption its first point.
The Greyhounds then picked up two points in singles play as Meg Hall (Pembroke, Mass. / Notre Dame) won at number five singles over Worth, 6-1, 6-0. Assumption earned its second singles point at number six singles as Melanie McCauley (Charlestown, R.I. / Chariho High School) defeated Valentine, 6-1, 6-2.
Assumption falls to 0-2 with the loss and 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play while Southern New Hampshire University improves to 2-0 on the season with the win and 2-0 in league play.
The Hounds will be back in action on September 29th against Merrimack College. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m.
