Worcester, Mass. (September 25) -- The Assumption College women's tennis opened its match schedule with a loss to Division I Holy Cross at the Assumption Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) played number one singles and battled a tough number one for Holy Cross, Virginia Peck-Philips, in a 7-6, 6-1 loss.
Senior Paige Gilet (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) nearly took the first set from Maya Welch at number three singles, a 7-6, 6-0 loss.
Riley paired with fellow freshman Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle Cassidy), and the pair managed to take four games off Peck-Philips and partner Jaclyn Carroll in a hard-fought 8-4 loss.
The Greyhounds fell by a 9-0 final and are now 0-1 on the season and are back in action on Thursday, September 26th as Assumption will play host to Southern New Hampshire University. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Assumption tennis courts.
