Worcester, Mass. (April 2) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win over American International College at the Assumption College tennis courts on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Greyhounds led 2-1 after doubles action as Paige Gilet (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) and Meg Hall (Pembroke, Mass. / Notre Dame) earned a win at number two singles with an 8-1 final. Melanie McCauley (Charlestown, R.I. / Chariho High School) and Gaby Marandino (Granby, Conn. / Northwest Catholic) earned a point at number three doubles with an 8-0 final. The victory for Marandino came in her first-ever appearance for the Greyhounds.
With the 2-1 lead after doubles, the Greyhounds swept three through six singles to secure the victory. Gilet earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number three singles, while Hall cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory at number four singles. McCauley won by a 6-1, 6-2 count at five singles, while Allison Gorman (East Providence, R.I. / East Providence) rounded out the singles victories with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-3 comeback win for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Wednesday, April 3rd as Assumption will play host to Merrimack College. The match will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Assumption College tennis courts in Worcester, Mass.
