Paxton, Mass. (March 22) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team defeated the College of Saint Rose to pick up its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season at the Paxton Sports Center on Friday afternoon.
The final tally was 8-1 as the Greyhounds improve to 2-9 on the season, while Saint Rose falls to 0-8 with the loss.
The Greyhounds swept doubles play as Erica Micciche (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) and Cassy Waung (Bolton, Mass. / East Catholic) cruised to an 8-1 final at number one doubles. The number three doubles team of Allison Gorman (East Providence, R.I. / East Providence) and Melanie McCauley (Charlestown, R.I. / Chariho) also won by an 8-1 final, while Meg Hall (Pembroke, Mass. / Notre Dame) and Paige Gilet (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) finished off the sweep with an 8-4 final at number two doubles.
In singles action, the Greyhounds swept two through six singles as Waung, Gilet, Hall, and McCauley all won in convincing fashion at two through five respectively. In number six singles, Gorman won a hard-fought match with a 7-5, 10-8 victory.
The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, March 23 against Le Moyne. The match will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Greendale Y in Worcester, Mass.
