Worcester, Mass. (May 13) -- The Assumption College Department of Athletics recently held the First “Houndies” Student-Athlete Awards Night, honoring the top student-athletes and accomplishments from the 2015-2016 athletic season. The event was held in Laska Gym with nearly 700 student-athletes and special guests in attendance and featured women’s basketball head coach Kerry Phayre and football head coach Bob Chesney as emcees for the evening.
The Assumption College rowing team competed in its final event of the season, the New England Rowing Championships, on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The Hounds raced a novice four boat, which earned a spot on the Novice Four Grand Final, and a varsity four boat which qualified for the Varsity Four Petite Final.
The Assumption College rowing team completed its second-to-last competition of the season on Saturday as the Hounds competed in the 2016 Northeast-10 Rowing Championship. Assumption raced two boats on the day while setting a new program record in the novice four race.
The Assumption College women's rowing team raced against three schools on a windy Saturday afternoon in just one event this past weekend. With white caps showing throughout the whole course, the teams completed the challenging race in fourth place.
Two Greyhound boats claimed first-place victories on Saturday as the Hounds hosted Bryant, Brandeis, Mass. Maritime and Roger Williams at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Assumption claimed the varsity eight race by over nine seconds before taking the novice four race by nearly 20 seconds.
