WORCESTER, Mass. - On Saturday, the Assumption Varsity 8 squared off against Merrimack in a battle between NE10 opponents, and facing tough winds Merrimack was able to come away with the victory.
The Warriors finished in 7:50.0 while the Hounds came in at 8:03.3 racing against 10-15 mpg head wins with gusts up to 20 mph. Assumption's boat consisted of: coxswain Madison Goodrow (Hopkinton, Mass. / Bancroft School), stroke Abby Boyko (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes), Michelle Byrnes (Oakdale, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist Diocesan), Alexis Gibbons (Shirley, Mass. / St. Bernard's Central Catholic), Lily Vartanian (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville), Karolina Dzieminski (Webster, Mass. / Bartlet), MaryHope Gardner (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional High School), Renee Levitt (Woburn, Mass. / Austin Prep) and Hannah Avard (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester West).
Head coach Aline Seekins was pleased with her team's performance overall. "Our team raced well considering the wind as well as multiple motor boat wakes during the course of the race. We will now look to improve upon our weakest sections of the race before we compete in the New England Rowing Championship this coming Saturday."
