Women’s Rowing Sweeps All Three Races on Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption women's rowing team continued its impressive spring at Lake Quinsigamond as the Varsity 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8 all turned in victories on Saturday morning.

In the opening race of the day the Varsity 8 easily took first, winning in a time of 7:23.9, 12 seconds ahead of second place Johnson & Wales and nearly 40 seconds in front of Bryant. The boat consisted of  coxswain Hannah Avard (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester West), stroke Abby Boyko (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes), Kathryn Witherwax (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes), Alexis Gibbons (Shirley, Mass. / St. Bernard's Central Catholic), MaryHope Gardner (Deep River, Conn. / Valley Regional High School), Karolina Dzieminski (Webster, Mass. / Bartlet), Lily Vartanian (Vernon, Conn. / Rockville), Madison Goodrow (Hopkinton, Mass. / Bancroft School) and Michelle Byrnes (Oakdale, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist Diocesan).

Not to be outdone, the Varsity 4 came through with another victory, edging out the Bryant "A" boat by nine seconds with its time of 8:14.7. The boat consisted of coxswain Avard, stroke Boyko, Gardner, Gibbons and Byrnes.

The Novice 8 finished the day strong, setting a new school record with its times of 8:06.0 and breaking the school record of 8:16.5 which was set at the New England Rowing Championship back in 2013. The boat beat Johnson & Wales by nearly 30 seconds as it had a time of 8:42.7. The boat consisted of coxswain Boyko, stroke Dzieminski, Witherwax, Renee Leavitt (Woburn, Mass. / Austin Prep), Madison Doyle (Foxborough, Mass. / Foxborough, Laura Dunleavy (Winchester, Mass. / Winchester), Vartanian, Goodrow and Avard.

The Hounds returns to action April 29 when they row against Franklin Pierce and Merrimack.
