LOWELL, Mass. – The Assumption women's rowing team kicked off its fall season with a strong showing by placing ninth out of 15 varsity teams at the Textile River Regatta on the Merrimack River this Sunday.
Racing in near ideal conditions, the varsity eight raced to a ninth place finish with a time of 24:01.624 over the 5,800 meter race, passing multiple boats during the competition. The boat consisted of coxswaim Janelle LeBeau (Douglas, Mass. / Blackstone Valley Reg. Voc. Tech.), stroke Abby Boyko (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes), Kathryn Witherwax (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Our Lady of Lourdes), Annah Coddington (Beverly, Mass. / Beverly), MaryHope Gardner (Deep River, CT / Valley Regional), Madison Goodrow (Hopkinton, Mass. / Bancroft School), Mariah Mitchell-LaBrie (Cumberland, Maine / Catherine McAuley), Alexis Gibbons (Shirley, Mass. / St. Bernard's Central Catholic) and Michelle Byrnes (Oakdale, Mass. / St. John the Baptist Diocesan).
Head Coach Aline Seekins was pleased with the team's effort. "I was extremely pleased with how the girls raced today and with how they looked coming down the course. We are at a much better starting point this year and I am excited to see where we can grow from here."
The Hounds return to the water on Oct. 15 when they race at home in the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta.
