Rowing Competes in Two Events Over Weekend

Worcester, Mass. (April 30) -- The Assumption College rowing team competed in two events over the weekend, with a novice and varsity boat competing in each event.

In the first event at Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, April 28, the novice boat came in 6th place with a time of 9:47 with coxswain Courtney Ordway (Shrewsbury, Mass./Bancroft School), stroke seat Amanda Sanders (Norwalk, Conn.), three seat Bridget Harrigan (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic), two seat Shawna Van Etten and bow Ellie Engdahl (Rutland, Mass./Saint Peter Marian). The team raced against Amherst, Conn College, Bowdoin and Clark.

Assumption's varsity boat came in 5th against Bowdoin, Amherst, Conn College, Clark and Mass Maritime with a time of 8:53. Ordway as coxswain, Rachael Lahey (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), stroke, Sanders, three seat, two seat, Maura Newey (Maynard, Mass./Maynard) and bow, captain Lisa Gagne (Avon, Conn./Avon).

For the event on Sunday in New Bedford, Mass., Assumption's two boats placed first place in their preliminary races qualifying them for the finals. 

The novice boat with Ordway as coxswain, Lahey as stroke, Harrigan as three seat, Engdahl as two seat and VanEtten as bow. The Greyhounds came in first in their heat.

The varsity boat came in first in their heat as well, with Lahey as stroke, Sanders as three seat, Newey as two and Gagne in bow and coxswain, Ordway.
