Hounds Fall 14-4 at No. 4 New Haven

West Haven, Conn. (April 16) -- On Wednesday afternoon at Kayo Field, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-4 road final at No. 4 ranked New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Chargers are the fifth nationally-ranked team that the Hounds have faced this season, including the third in the last four games.

The Chargers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the first 23 minutes of the opening half as Kathryn Campbell, Marissa Fisher and Nicole McKee each registered a pair of goals for the first-half lead. The Hounds answered with goals from junior Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) and sophomore Meg Curley (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) to make it a 7-2 margin with 2:56 left in the first half. McKee and McNeil traded goals over the remainder of the half as New Haven held the 7-3 advantage heading into the break.

New Haven began the second half on a 7-0 scoring run to extend the lead to 14-3 before junior Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) tallied an unassisted scored with 4:02 left for the 14-4 final. The goal was the 20th of the season for Auger, which marks her third-straight season of 20 goals or more.

McNeil posted a pair of goals to lead the Hounds as she now has 38 for the season and 160 for her career. McKee led the Chargers with four goals, along with three from Campbell and two from Fisher.

New Haven held a 25-15 edge in ground balls and 12-9 in clear attempts, while Assumption had the 11-9 advantage in draw controls behind six by senior Mary Guinee (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) and four from sophomore Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn./Guilford).

Freshman goalie Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton), who led the team with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, finished with 10 saves in the loss. Two New Haven goalies split time, including starter Alyssa Gianotti who picked up the win with two first-half stops.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 8-7 overall and ends the league schedule at 6-6 in Northeast-10 play, while New Haven improves to 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the league.

Assumption concludes the 2014 season on Thursday, April 24th as the Hounds host Mercy College for a 7 p.m. Senior Night start beginning at 7 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
