Worcester, Mass. (April 13) -- On Sunday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium, the Assumption College women's lacrosse team dropped a 24-3 final to No. 2 ranked Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Adelphi opened up a 7-0 lead to start the game behind two goals each by freshman Jackie Jahelka and sophomore Rachel O'Brien over the first 16 minutes of play. Assumption answered with a 3-0 run, which was started by the second goal of the season by sophomore Meg Curley (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford). After an Adelphi timeout, the Panthers closed the half on a 3-0 run of their own to take a 10-3 lead into the halftime break. Senior Devan Crimi scored the last two goals of the half to complete the first-period hat trick, en route to a team-high nine goals in the game.
Between the end of the first and the beginning of the second half, Crimi tallied six straight goals for the Panthers as Adelphi pulled away. Alexa Froccaro had three goals and one assist in the second half as the Panthers continued to keep up the offensive pressure despite the game being out of reach at 19-3 with just over five minutes remaining.
