McNeil Ties School Record in Victory Over Southern Connecticut State University
Worcester, Mass. (April 4) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team defeated Southern Conn. State University, 22-9, at the Multi-Sport Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity) scored eight goals in the game, including three-consecutive goals, tying a school record set by Karen Shaw '99. For the season, Mcneil has 40 goals, tied for sixth for most goals in a season in school history.
Sophomore Lindsay Hagerman (Scarborough, Maine) scored three goals for the Greyhounds, while Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk), Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass./Holliston), Kathryn Beall (Florence, Mass./Northampton), and Caitlin White (Bethany, Conn./Amity) each scored two. Junior Steph O'Rourke (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) had a team-high two assists, while Auger, Beall, Danielle D'Amico (Johnson, R.I./LaSalle Academy), Hagerman, McNeil, Santos, and White each had one.
The Greyhounds out shot SCSU 49-22, and picked up 30 ground balls, while the Owls picked up 16. Assumption was 3-8 on free position shots, while SCSU was 2-3.
Assumption scored the first four goals of the game, and jumped out to a 10-3 lead with 11:32 remaining in the first half on McNeil's fourth goal of the game. Assumption extended the lead to nine, 15-6 at the half.
SCSU played even with Assumption for the first 20 minutes of the second half, with Assumption holding a 16-7 lead, until Beall scored her second goal of the game, sparking a 4-0 run for Assumption. The Greyhounds scored five of the final six goals in the game as Assumption went on to pick up the 22-9 victory.
Sophomore goaltender Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) had 11 saves in the victory, while Lynette Martinez had 16 saves in the loss.
Assumption remained undefeated at home with a 3-0 record, and improves to 4-6 overall and 3-4 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while SCSU falls to 1-10 overall and 0-8 in the league.
