Rockville Centre, N.Y. (March 7) -- The Assumption College women's lacrosse team fell to Queens College, 12-11, at the campus of Molloy College on Wednesday night.
Assumption rallied from a seven-goal deficit in the second half, to cut the lead to one with 45 seconds remaining behind four goals from freshman Amy McNeil (Orange, Conn./Amity)
but could not even the score en route to the loss.
Queens and Assumption went back and forth over an exciting first 13 minutes of the contest, as Kathryn Beall (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at four with 17 minutes remaining in the half.
Queens took control over the final 17 minutes, taking a 9-4 lead into the half and extended the lead to seven after scoring the first two goals of the second half, before McNeil scored her first goal of the game, starting the Assumption comeback. The Greyhounds would score seven of the final eight goals in the game.
McNeil scored a second goal just over a minute later, with 20:30 left to play in the game to bring the score within five. Michelle Santos (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) capitalized on a free position shot to cut the lead to four. Following a Queens goal, McNeil scored her third and fourth goals of the game to cut the lead to three, 12-9, with 7:36 to play.
Freshman Camille Auger (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) cut into the lead further with two goals within a minute to make the score 12-11 with 45 seconds left to play.
Assumption could not draw any closer and fell to 0-2 on the season, while Queens improves to 2-0.
The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, March 13 at Merrimack. The game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
