Pagonis Scores Three Goals as Hounds Fall to Molloy
Worcester, Mass. -- The Assumption women's lacrosse team couldn't recover from a slow start as they fell to the visiting Lions of Molloy College on Sunday at the Multi-Sport Stadium, 16-8.
Junior midfielder Stefanie Pagonis (Leicester, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored three goals for the Greyhounds, who rallied back from a 6-1 halftime defecit to come within three after a goal by senior midfielder Erin Theriault (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) with 13:14 remaining in the second half with the score 11-8. However, the Greyhounds could not keep the momentum going, as Molloy finished the game scoring five straight goals.
Ten players scored for the Lions, led by junior midfielder Emily Antonette's (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) three goals. Senior attacker Hayley Lacey (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) had two goals with five assists, while senior attacker Maria Varricchio (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) had two goals with three assists. Senior goalkeeper Jackie Bove (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) had 14 saves.
Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) had 11 saves.
Molloy runs its record to 5-4, while Assumption falls too 5-5. The Greyhounds are in action again on Tuesday as they head to Adelphi.
