Women's Basketball Picked Sixth in NE10 Northeast Division Preseason Poll

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption College women's basketball team was selected sixth in the Northeast Division of the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, as selected by the conference's head coaches. The Hounds open their season on Friday, November 9 at 8 p.m. at the Roberts Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament.

Bentley was picked first in the Northeast Division, earning 14 first-place votes and 112 total points. Saint Anselm was second with 83 points, followed by Stonehill (79), SNHU (78), Merrimack (74) and then Assumption with 50 total votes. In the Southwest Division, Adelphi received five first-place votes and 82 total points while Le Moyne took second with 73 total points and three first-place votes. Last season, the Hounds went 10-16 overall with a 7-5 record in their home gym. Assumption averaged 58.8 points per game along with 35.7 rebounds and 13.2 assists. The Hounds ended the season last year with a 79-61 win on their senior day over SNHU.

The Hounds return a trio of strong seniors in Abby McKanna (Narragansett, R.I./Narragansett), Morgan O'Donnell (Easton, Mass./Ursuline Academy), and Jordan Hawkins (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie). McKanna totaled 16 steals last year along with shooting 37 percent from the three. O'Donnell was named to the NE10 All-Conference Third Team, selected to WABCA All-Area First Team and named WACBA Player of the Week last year while averaging 14.2 points per game, 7.8 rebounds, and a free throw percentage of 76.1. Hawkins totaled 13 blocked shots in last season along with shooting a 52.5 percent from the floor and averaged 3.2 points per game.

In addition, the team returns juniors Brianna Capacchione (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township), Katherine Golden (Millis, Mass./Millis)  and Brittani LeBlanc (Townsend, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) who all saw significant minutes last year. Sophomores Meghan Reen (Norwood, Mass./Norwood), Meghan Cramb (New Boston, N.H./Bishop Guertin High School), Laura Roman (Bronx, N.Y./St. Andrews School) and Temi Falayi (Peabody, Mass./St. Mary's High School) will also be looked to for contributions this year.

The Hounds have added four freshman this season, including guard Emme Poulin (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus High School), guard Lauren Hammersley (Garden City, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), guard Caterina Fonseca (Enfield, Conn./Enfield High School) and forward Anna Shaughnessy (Attleboro Falls, Mass./Bishop Feehan).

Assumption will travel to Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, November 9 to begin the Roberts Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament at 8 p.m.
