Lowrey, DiPilato Earn All-Region Honors
Brookville, N.Y. (May 8) -- Assumption College senior pitcher Jennifer Lowrey (Assonet, Mass./Apponequet) and freshman third baseman Jess DiPilato (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name) have been named to the Daktronics Softball East All-Region Second Team for their performances during the 2012 season.
The 2012 Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year, Lowrey posted an 18-10 overall record as she was named as the Northeast-10 Tournament MVP after leading the Hounds to the Northeast-10 Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. With the team needing a pair of wins to capture the title, Lowrey pitched both games and allowed just eight hits and two runs while striking out a combined 26 batters in 12 innings to help the team advance to the NCAA Tournament. In that pair of wins, Lowrey became the Assumption all-time career strikeout leader and finished her four-year career with 705 career strikeouts. In addition to her major award and other recognition, Lowrey was a two-time Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week and was named as a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection for the second straight season.
Overall on the season, Lowrey posted a 1.82 earned run average and a .189 batting average against, both ranked second among league pitchers. She threw 26 complete games, including five shutouts, and reached double-digit strikeouts in 12 games. She averaged 9.4 strikeouts per seven innings, ranking her second in the Northeast-10 and 15th in the nation. Highlighting her season was a 12-strikeout perfect game in a home win over American International on April 17th, marking just the fourth perfect game in school history. In league play, Lowrey led all conference pitchers with a 1.37 earned run average, along with a .183 batting average against that also led the league. In all, 151 of her 246 strikeouts came in Northeast-10 action, along with all five of her shutout victories.
A psychology major, Lowrey earned the 2011 Fall Assumption College Student-Athlete Director's Citation for a grade point average of over a 3.50, as well as being name to the 2010 Spring Assumption College Student-Athlete Honor Roll.
DiPilato was named as the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year after leading the Northeast-10 in batting in conference play with a .452 mark. In addition, she was named the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team and earned All-Rookie honors as well. In the regular season, DiPilato led the team with .408 average, ranking her fifth in the league in overall batting. She is also second in on-base percentage in league games at .510 and fourth in slugging percentage in league games at .753. She also ranks among the league leaders in hits with 57 (12th), doubles with 13 (8th), triples with 3 (5th) and home runs with 7 (15th). DiPilato is the third straight Assumption player to claim Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year honors as the Hounds now have four past rookie winners on this year's roster.
