Michael Hughes of Natick, MA, a former standout player at Boston College, has been named head men's tennis coach at Assumption College. Hughes replaces Luca DiFilippo, who coached the Greyhounds to the Northeast-10 Conference quarterfinals last season in his only year with the team. Hughes was a major factor as Boston College won the Big East team championship in 1988, 89 and 90. He was a member of the 1990 Big East doubles team champions.

Former Assumption College men's tennis standout and captain MATT STOPP has been named the 2007 male Division II Robbins Scholar-Athlete. He is the second Greyhound to have earned the award as James Newman '05, who excelled at both tennis and golf, is the only two-time male winner in 2004 and 2005. Sponsored by Robbins Sports Surfaces, the Cincinnati-based sports surfaces company, the awards honor the outstanding academic and athletics achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Divisions I, II and III.

Assumption College senior tennis standout MATT STOPP has been named the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year as selected by the conference Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR) Council. He will be a candidate for the N.C.A.A. Division II Conference Commissioner's Association National Scholar-Athlete of the Year award sponsored by Disney Sports Attractions. That announcement will be made in June.
Stopp is the sixth Greyhound student-athlete and third tennis player to win the coveted prize since its inception in 2000.
