Manchester, N.H. (September 18) -- The Assumption College men's tennis team opened up the 2013-14 season after not competing in the 2012-13 season with a hot start, taking two of three doubles matches on the way to a 7-2 loss against Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon.
Newcomers Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) and Viljami Rahnasto (Vantaa, Finland) earned an 8-5 victory at number one doubles over senior Mitch Dobek and junior Mike Wallace. Dobek and Wallace recently captured the Stonehill Doubles Invitational Flight A Championship.
At number three doubles, graduate student and captain Matt Drolet (Cumberland, R.I. / Mt. St. Charles) teamed up with freshman Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug) for an 8-5 win at number three doubles.
The Greyhounds couldn't break through in singles action as Waung fell by a 6-4, 6-0 final at number one singles. Assumption also battled at the bottom of the lineup as Drolet dropped a 6-3, 6-4 final at number five singles and freshman Casey Hodor (North Kingston, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) dropped a 6-2, 6-4 final at number six singles.
The Greyhounds fall to 0-1 on the season with the loss and 0-1 in league play while SNHU improves to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in the league.
