Assumption College Gets Seventh N.C.A.A. Regional Bid;
Play Mercy, NY in first round of East Regional!
WORCESTER, Mass. --- The Assumption College men's tennis team has received, as expected, its seventh straight N.C.A.A. Division II regional tournament berth.
Assumption won its eighth straight Northeast-10 Conference post-season title Saturday beating rival Bentley College, 5-0, in the title match. The team won its eighth straight regular-season title with an 11-0 record . . . their eighth straight undefeated season in conference play.
The Greyhounds, now 17-3 overall, are scheduled to play Mercy, NY (10-3) in their first match Thursday at host Stonehill College (Easton, MA). In the other pairing, Northeast 10 Conference rival Stonehill College (15-5) plays Concordia (14-7).
In the 'other' East Regional at Kutztown, PA, Dowling, NY (6-4) plays the host, Kutztown (12-2) in the first round, while Northeast-10 Conference runner-up Bentley College (16-11) plays against Queens, NY (19-3).
The tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 4 through Saturday, May 6. Exact dates and times are slated to be announced Thursday morning.
The Greyhounds, who have won 62 consecutive matches on their home courts and 103 consecutive against Northeast-10 Conference competition, defeated Mercy, NY (5-1) in last year's N.C.A.A. regional. Their season ended the following day in a 5-2 loss to Kutztown, PA.
