Assumption Drops Saint Rose, 4-0, in NE-10 opener

Worcester, Mass. (September 13) -- The Assumption men's soccer team defeated The College of Saint Rose, 4-0, behind goals by four different Greyhounds.

Freshman forward Griffin McGrail (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) started the scoring in the 39th minute, on a one-on-one with the goalie. Dom Mondi (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) assisted the goal.

Freshman Kieran Hillery (Smithfield, R.I./Smithfield) added another goal for the Hounds before halftime, in the 43rd minute, off a corner kick by Tom Carroll (Belford, N.J./Middletown North).

Mondi added an unassisted goal of his own just after halftime, to push the lead to 3-0. Assumption scored its final goal in the 81st minute, when a third freshman got into the scoring action. Midfielder Troy Lamagna (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) found the back of the net off an assist by Max Roche (Medway, Mass./Medway) and Dan Davis (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury).

Assumption goalie Matt Wrenn (Windham, N.H./Tilton School)  made three saves while posting a shutout.

Assumption moves to 1-1 on the season, including a 1-0 record in the Northeast-10. The College of Saint Rose falls to 0-4 on the season, including a 0-2 record in the conference.

The Hounds hit the field next on the road against Mass.-Lowell on September 17 at 3:00 p.m.
