Hounds Fall at No. 12 Chestnut Hill in Season Opener
Lafayette Hill, Pa. (March 6) -- In the 2012 season opener, the Assumption College men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-4 final at No. 12 Chestnut Hill on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play.
The Griffins jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one quarter before Garrett Smith (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) found the back of the net for a 6-1 margin. Chestnut Hill led 9-1 at the half and by a 13-2 margin after three quarters before dropping the 18-4 road final.
Four Assumption players scored, while freshman John Powers (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) posted a pair of assists in the loss. Matt Palubicki (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) played the first three quarters and made seven saves in the loss, with Tommy Carmichael (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) making one save in the fourth quarter.
Mike Melnychenkio and Craig Owen led the Chestnut Hill offense with a three-goal outing by each.
Assumption falls to 0-1 overall, while Chestnut Hill now sits at 2-1 on the season. The Hounds return to action on Thursday, March 8th as the team takes on Wheeling Jesuit at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Ryken High School in Leonardtown, Md.
