Colchester, Vt. (April 30) -- The Assumption College men's lacrosse team lead thru the first three quarters of the game before No. 10 ranked Saint Michael's rallied in the fourth quarter for a 7-5 victory over the Greyhounds at Duffy Field on Saturday. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday in the Northeast-10 Tournament Quarterfinals.
The Hounds took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from John Murphy (Walpole, Mass/Bridgton) and took that lead into the second quarter. Saint Michael's tied the game late in the second on a score from Marty Vanzo, but the Hounds answered with an even-strength score from Connor MacNeil (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) for the 2-1 lead at the half.
Assumption kept the one-goal lead thru three quarters and led by a 4-2 margin before the Purple Knights managed to tie the game at 4-4 with just 29 seconds left in the third on a goal from Pete Donnally. Greyhound senior Will Langevin (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) put the Hounds back out in front with just two seconds left in the third with his 33rd goal of the season.
In the fourth, the Purple Knights tied the game early in the period, took the lead midway on a goal from Donnally and clinched the victory on a goal from Paul Tortora, Jr. with just 14 seconds left.
Senior Scott Vogel (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy-Liberty) had six saves in the defeat.
The Hounds take on the Purple Knights at 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at Duffy Field in the first-ever Northeast-10 playoff appearance for Assumption. The Hounds finish the regular season at 9-6 overall and 5-5 in the Northeast-10, while the Purple Knights are 9-5 overall and 8-2 in the league.
