Assumption Falls 3-1 in Northeast-10 Semifinal

Worcester, Mass. (February 25) -- The Assumption College men's ice hockey team lost to Stonehill College, 3-1, in the semifinal of the Northeast-10 Conference playoffs on Saturday Night at the Buffone Arena.

Assumption fell behind 3-0 after two periods, despite 38 saves by sophomore goaltender Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston Northampton). The Ice Dogs cut into the lead with 10 minutes to play when sophomore forward Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) notched his 13th goal of the season, but Assumption could not pull any closer.

Assumption set a new goaltending record, turning away 1,072 shots this season, breaking the previous school record of 1,041 set in 1999-00. The goaltenders also set a school record with a save percentage of .923 on the season, besting the 1981-82 team record of .905.

The Ice Dogs finish with a record of 13-11-1 overall, while Stonehill moves to 10-11-3 on the season.
