Ice Dogs Drop Wesleyan University, 4-3 in Overtime

Hartford, Conn. (November 27) -- The Assumption College men's ice hockey team defeated Wesleyan University on the campus of Trinity College, 4-3 in overtime, on Sunday afternoon. Nick Mattiello (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) added the game-winning goal, his seventh of the season, at the 2:08 mark of the overtime period.

The Ice Dogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 2:15 mark in the first period when Taylor Larsen (Blackstone, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored his fourth marker of the season, his first of two goals, on a pass from Pat O'Kane

Assumption extended its lead to two when Joe Fimiani (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) scored his first goal on this season, off passes from Patrick Ryan (Orlando, Fla./Harrington Prep) and Kevin Glanzman (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) midway through the first period. Wesleyan scored two unanswered goals to close out the period and knot the score at two.

Wesleyan took its first lead in the second period when Nik Tasiopoulos scored his sixth goal of the season, an unassisted marker, 2:16 into the second period.

From then on, Assumption goalie Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass./Williston-Northampton) shut down Wesleyan University. In total he made 38 saves, including 11 in each the second and third periods. 

Assumption meanwhile knotted up the score on Larsen's second goal of the game, his fifth of the season, off a pass from Keven Meehan midway through the second period.

After a scoreless third period, Mattiello provided the heroics, beating Wesleyan goaltender Matt Hadge, who had made 20 saves in the contest to that point.

Assumption moves to 5-4-1 with the victory, while Wesleyan slips to 3-2-0 with the loss.
