Alfonso Payne recently completed his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Greyhounds men's basketball program in 2012-2013. Payne came to Assumption after a four-year playing career and subsequent three-year stretch as an assistant coach at Franklin Pierce University. He is involved with scouting, recruiting, player development and other day-to-day operations.
He was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Ravens and assisted under Coach David Chadbourne (2004-07,) where he was in charge of film exchange, scouting, travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks. The Ravens upset Division I New Hampshire during his tenure.
Payne played both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots for the Ravens from 1998-2002. He capped his collegiate career with a career-best 21 points, as he drained four-of-seven three-pointers to go with seven rebounds in an Northeast-10 Conference playoff game against the College of Saint Rose.
Prior to returning to Franklin Pierce, he worked two years for Dolce & Gabbana in Miami, FL following graduation. He played pro-am league basketball in his spare time in south Florida.
A native of Boston, he received his bachelor's in sports management in 2002. He received an M.B.A. in human resource management also from Franklin Pierce.
