WORCESTER, Mass. – After helping to lead Assumption to its first victory of the season, freshman Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) has been honored as the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Rookie of the Week as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Kelly averaged 15.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week. The freshman led the Hounds to a 79-70 victory with a career-high 21 points, including 13 in the second half while missing just a single shot as Assumption outscored Molloy by 12 in the period. He also dished off four assists in the game. In Kelly's first action of the week he scored nine points with three steals and two assists in a loss to Bentley. Kelly was also selected as the NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday.
The Hounds look to win their second straight when they travel to play Saint Michael's on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
