Garden City, N.Y. (February 11) -- Assumption cut the lead down to five points early in the second half before first-place Adelphi answered and came away with a 70-51 victory in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps Assumption's two-game winning streak and gives the Panthers a sweep of the regular-season series.
Assumption trailed by an 8-6 margin in the early minutes after a basket from Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) before a 7-0 run made it a 15-6 game with 13:44 left in the opening period. The Panthers held the Hounds to just four field goals over the last 16 minutes of the half as Adelphi took a 30-19 advantage into the halftime break.
The Hounds cut into the lead quickly to start the second half after a baseline jumper by Quick, Assumption was back to within five at 30-25. Over the next eight minutes however, Adelphi put together a decisive 23-9 run, capped by a pair of three-pointers, to make it a 53-34 margin with just over nine minutes remaining.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 10-13 overall and 8-11 in Northeast-10 play, while the Panthers improve to 17-6 overall and 14-5 in the league.
Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, February 14th as the Hounds travel to Saint Rose for a 7:30 p.m. start in Albany, N.Y.
