New Haven, Conn. (January 31) -- On Tuesday night at Moore Fieldhouse, the Assumption men's basketball team dropped an 82-65 final to Southern Connecticut in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the Owl win, the two teams split the regular-season series.
Southern Connecticut jumped out to a 21-11 lead seven minutes in and led by a 27-18 margin at the 13:13 mark. Assumption cut the lead down to seven on a layup from Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross) with 9:32 on the clock before a 9-3 run made it a 41-24 margin with 1:48 left. The Owls led by as many as 19 at 46-27 before a late three from Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) made it a 47-30 margin at the half.
The Owls continued to lead by 16 at 54-38 before a 13-3 run, capped by a layup from Quick, pulled Assumption within 57-51 with 10:23 remaining. Southern Connecticut answered with a run of its own and pulled out to a 71-56 lead at the 5:40 mark, prompting an Assumption timeout. The Owls led by at least 12 points over the remainder of the half to seal the victory.
Beinert led the Hounds with 22 points, while junior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) finished with 10 assists. The game is the eighth double-digit assist game of the season for Rozsnaki, who is fourth in the nation in assists per game.
With the loss, Assumption falls to 8-12 overall and 6-10 in the Northeast-10, while Southern Connecticut improves to 9-11 overall and 7-9 in the league.
