Field Hockey Faces No. 2 Stonehill in NE10 Semifinals

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption field hockey team upset No. 3 Pace in the NE10 Quarterfinal game to advance to the NE10 Semifinals which will be hosted by No. 2 Stonehill College on Friday night at 6 pm. 

The Hounds enter the Tournament at 11-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play. On Tuesday, the Hounds traveled to No. 3 Pace and upset them 2-1 in overtime. Senior Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) scored both goals, while freshman Isabel Primack (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) assisted on both plays. Junior goaltender Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass./Southwick Tolland Regional) made six saves in the win, including two breakaway stops in overtime. 

The Assumption offense is led by Sheahan who has tallied 31 points this season on 11 goals and nine assists. Freshman Shannon Quinlan (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) and sophomore Molly Quinlan (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville) have each scored seven goals, while Courtney Sickel (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional) and Deirdre Burchill (Braintree, Mass./Braintree) have added five apiece. Bodzinski has started 18 games to record a 10-8 record, a .772 save percentage and five shutouts. 

The Skyhawks enter today's contest at 13-5 overall and 10-2 in conference play. Last Saturday, Stonehill fell 2-1 to LIU Post to conclude their regular season. Kacie Smith scored the lone Skyhawk lone goal on a breakaway. Smith leads the Stonehill offense with 97 points on 40 goals and 17 assists. Junior Carly Andersen is second on the team in points with 29 on 13 goals and three assists. Goaltender Sara Freedman has started 17 games, posting a 13-4 record, a .748 save percentage and four shutouts. 

This year, the Hounds and Skyhawks have met twice which resulted in two Stonehill victories. The Hounds hosted them early in the season and fell 3-2. Quinlan and Sam Tepper (StroudsbUrg, Pa./Stroudsburg) each scored but Stonehill's Andersen and Smith combined for three goals to seal the win. In the next game, Smith recorded a hat trick while Freedman made 10 saves to register the 4-0 shutout.
