Springfield, Mass. (September 23) -- On Thursday night at Ronald J. Abdow Field, the Assumption field hockey team dropped a 1-0 final to American International in Northeast-10 Conference action. The loss drops the Greyhounds to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in Northeast-10 play.
Both sides had chances in the opening minutes of the game, with both goalies making outstanding saves. AIC struck for the lone goal of the game midway thru the first half though as Amanda McLean converted a penalty corner, off an assist from Cassie Caciano. For the game, the Yellow Jackets held a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore Heather Philbrick (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) made eight saves in net for the Hounds, while Kim Steiner turned aside three shots.
Assumption is back in action on Sunday, September 25th as the Hounds travel to UMass Lowell for a 1 p.m. start.
