Football To Host 2012 Spring Game on Saturday
Worcester, Mass. (April 20) -- On Saturday, April 21st, the Assumption College football team will be holding its annual Spring Game at the Multi-Sport Stadium beginning at 4 p.m. In addition, the team is taking part in the Team IMPACT program for this upcoming season and will "draft" Yan and Jose Perez onto the team at halftime on Saturday afternoon.
For the 2012 season, the Assumption College Football Team is participating in the Team IMPACT program, which is a Northeast-based non-profit chartered to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening diseases. The program is based upon harnessing the power of the team atmosphere and having these brave children drafted onto a college team to act as an additional support system for the child.
In this program, Assumption Football is "drafting" Yan Perez, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor called Choroid Plexus Carcinoma in August 2008 when he was just six months old. The team will also be drafting Yan's brother, Jose, as part of the program. Originally from Florida, Yan and his mother, Yansen, has come up to Massachusetts to seek treatment for his tumor, after being told by the doctors in Florida that his tumor was so rare and his survival rate was so low that they refused to continue treatment.
"Our team is extremely thankful to be a part of Team Impact," said Assumption College Football head coach Cory Bailey. "Already, we have drawn strength and encouragement from being around Yan. His positive attitude and endless amount of energy is quite amazing. He is truly now a member of our football family!"
On Saturday, April 21, the Assumption College Football program will hold its Annual Spring Game and at halftime of the game, will "draft" Yan and his brother, Jose, onto the team and recognize them on the field with an announcer and present them with Assumption College football gear to wear throughout the season. All of our student-athletes are being encouraged to attend and the public is welcome too. The game begins at 4 p.m., with the pregame drafting taking place at halftime.
