WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior pitcher Kevin O'Connor (Leominster, Mass. / Leominster) of the Assumption College baseball team has been named NE10 Co-Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Saint Anselm on Saturday.
O'Connor earns Pitcher of the Week honors after twirling a one-hit, complete game shutout and striking out eight batters in a 6-0 win over Saint Anselm on Saturday. The lone hit against O'Connor came in the top of the first inning where the batter beat out an infield single. Over the final seven innings of action, Saint Anselm didn't have a runner reach second base, and on the day only three runners reached at least second.
The Hounds were also represented on the NE10 Honor Roll, where junior pitchers Mike Curtis (Wilmington, Mass. / Wilmington), Tom Horstkotte (Milford, Mass. / St. John's) and junior catcher Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass. / Boston College) earned recognition.
Curtis took the mound against Saint Anselm on Saturday and was stellar, pitching eight-innings and earning the win in a 5-1 victory. He struck out a season high 12 batters while only allowing two hits and one unearned run.
Horstkotte produced a career day on the mound against Saint Anselm in a 6-4 win on Sunday, tossing eight-innings of one run ball while striking out a career high 15 batters. The junior scattered four hits over the outing to pick up his third win of the season.
Jaehnig was instrumental in helping the Hounds to a 3-1 week, where the junior batted .400 (6-for-15) with three doubles, five RBI and two runs scored. He ended the week by going a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and two runs in a 6-4 win over Saint Anselm.
The Hounds return to action on Tuesday, April 25 as they travel to Merrimack to take on the Warriors for a key divisional game starting at 3:30 p.m.
