Hounds Baseball Loses Slugfest to Merrimack, 9-7

North Andover, Mass. -- The Assumption Baseball team lost a tough, back-and-forth slugfest while visiting the Warriors of Merrimack College on Monday, falling short 9-7.

Assumption took a 1-0 lead in the first off a home run by sophomore second baseman Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Tech). Senior first baseman Drew Dombkowski (Southampton, Mass. / Hampshire) added an RBI single. The Greyhounds would immediately surrender the lead back in the bottom of the first as the Warriors posted three runs.

Assumption would pull ahead again in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs capped off by another RBI hit by Keddy that scored senior shortstop Shawn Frigon (Worcester, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian), giving Assumption a 5-3 lead. The Warriors would again come back, scoring two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, and the Greyhounds would not take the lead again.

Junior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass. / Saint John's) was two for four with two RBI.

Joe Santos (Ashland, Mass.) paced Merrimack with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate with four runs batted in and one run scored. Tim Curran (South Weymouth, Mass.) went 3-for-4 from the dish with one RBI and three runs scored.

With the loss, the Greyhounds are now 5-12 on the season, while the Warriors' record now stands at 7-7. Assumption plays next this Wednesday as they visit Adelphi.
